I studied BA (Hons) Theatre Design in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and graduated in 1998. I spend the next 2 years freelancing in costume for various TV and Theatre productions. Worked as a costume maker for Chicago the Musical, stagehand for Beauty and The Beast at the Dominion Theatre, wardrobe assistant for BBC, ITV and Chanel 5 productions. I designed the costumes for a couple of small independent films.
In 2000 I joined Angels the costumiers and spend over 8 ½ years working there as a senior costumier in the police and civil uniforms department. I worked closely with costume designers on UK and overseas production, managing many shows at the same time. Researched specialised costumes and applied technical and interpretational skills to meet each specific job requirements. Prepared costumes to measurements, fitted actors, overseeing alterations and tailoring requirements. I have extensive practice in period and contemporary costume with specialised knowledge in police and civilian uniforms. I am experienced in alterations and I am a confident user of domestic, industrial sewing machines and over lockers. I have basic pattern cutting knowledge and accurate hand sewing skills.
After Angels I freelanced in costume for 2 more years before joining a Mental Health Charity as an Operations Manager in 2009. I managed staff and volunteers, had HR and finance responsibilities and worked closely with the fundraiser to develop and deliver the fundraising events programme for the charity, which raised on average over £70,000 per year. It was a rewarding job for the 6 years I was there, but I really missed creativity and left in January 2016.
I am now looking for opportunities to return to costume work and I am available for an immediate start.
