About me
I am a graduate in Marketing and a well respected Arts professional. I have been self employed on a freelance basis in the sector since 2005. My portfolio includes the management of a number of high profile, successful Arts Projects, and programmes, including the delivery of the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival 2012 and Big Dance Bus 2010.Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival is a multi genre month long Arts Festival. Working with Local, Regional, National and Artists. A full program can be found at http://www.artsbournemouth.org.uk/festival-programme
Managing 52 events over 4 weeks also worked with the following key partner organisations on program delivery: Arts University College Bournemouth, Activate, Russell-Cotes Arts Gallery & Museum, Pavilion Dance South West, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Dorset Corset Theatre Company, Shelley Theatre, Pier Theatre, Odeon Cinema, Howl Agency and Bournemouth Natural Science Society.
Key achievements:
* Large scale multi site outdoor event across the town centre, gardens and seafront
* Turning a semi derelict building into a exhibition and performance space
* Working at Pier Theatre to produce a number of events including screening and bands
Working with a number of local Emerging Artists enabling them to produce their work at the Festival. Please see http://www.artsbournemouth.org.uk/events/journeys-commissions/
I was responsible for volunteers/support staff and stewards for Arts Bournemouth events including preparation of briefs for appointment of volunteers, agreeing requirements of volunteers and adequate cover for each event. Producing a training and communications plan for the volunteer team.
I also oversaw the set up/ de-rig of Arts Bournemouth projects and venues and where necessary to engaged specialist technicians such as electricians, carpenters, IT or engineers etc for installation of work, building requirements in venues or other preparations for events.
In 2010 I Co- Producer the Big Dance Bus Tour I was responsible for the commissioning, delivery, and project management of the programme. (Please see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMEvY3DkG1Q )
The Bus Program was launched at Move It 2010 and was made up of a total of 19 events, across 16 London Boroughs, including 1 National event in Brighton, reaching 98960 members of the public. The programme delivered 74 workshops, encouraging 1733 participants to participate, required the programming of 175 dance groups, totalling 1058 performers on stage ranging from 4 - 90yrs - performers' age range.
I led on health and safety, both for staff, commissioned services, contributors, artists and members of the public and conducted in depth health and safety assessment at each stop, along with relevant briefings and communications.
Between 2005 and 2009 I independently managed, commissioned and delivered the Dance programme contribution to Kilburn Festival. Kilburn Festival is a large, community orientated, combined arts festival. I led, commissioned and hosted a full day programme of Dance, centred
around its own dedicated stage which was relevant, contemporary popular, and holistic.
Each project I have run, whether that is local or pan London, I have used previous experience to learn and to ensure that programme are inventive and engaging in order to secure public support. I have used learning to further develop and improve my approach.
In addition, odd and unpredictable issues sometimes arose which needed a quick thinking and creative response - such as one day without a dance floor arriving! I believe I manage these issues well.
I have managed and was accountable for budgets of £100K when producing the Big Dance Bus and as part of this responsibility had to produce updated budget reports and monitor expenditure and income for events to ensure that the project came into budgets. I also have managed smaller scale budgets of under £1000 i.e. 'Big Dance Breaks Records Trafalgar Square'.
