In each episode of this Flemish whodunit, each based on a book by Flemish author Piet Aspe (hence the title), serious crime (usually one or more murders) in his home town, Brugge (Bruges, exceptionally rich in monuments, almost in main character in its won right), is investigated by grumpy but brilliant and efficient detective chief inspector Pieter van In and his partners, public prosecutor Hannelore Martens, who becomes his fiancée, and his -guy- police partner Guido Versavel, who usually does the boring office research -later mainly take over by the commissioner's cousin Mitch Dedecker- and even sets straight some of Pieter's messy personal life while they are off in the field.
