Created and co-written by Julian Fellowes, Downton Abbey is a British historical drama television series set in the early 20th century. The smash-hit series first aired on ITV in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2010, and in the United States on PBS, which supported production of the series as part of its Masterpiece Classic anthology, on 9 January 2011.

Downton Abbey is set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey between 1912 and 1926 and it depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era—with the great events of the time having an effect on their lives and on the British social hierarchy. Much of the series is steeped in events from history, including the sinking of the Titanic, the outbreak of the First World War, the Spanish influenza pandemic and more. A film adaptation of the series was released in 2019.

The series has received acclaim from audiences and critics alike and has worn numerous accolades. Downton Abbey has won three Golden Globe Awards, while being nominated for a further five and it has won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, while being nominated for a further 54. The series boasts an incredible array of talent, and some of its stars include Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Robert James-Collier, Maggie Smith and more.
