TV Show directory - General Naranjo

The series is based on the book "El General de las mil batallas" ("The General of One Thousand Battles"), written by Colombian journalist Julio Sanchez Cristo, which tells the story of General Oscar Naranjo, who was the director of Colombia's National Police and served as the country's vice president.

"We will tell the story from our point of view, from the point of view of the victims, of the good ones, of Colombians and Latin Americans who have fought against drug trafficking," Magdalena La Rotta, vice president of production for Fox Telecolombia, said.

In order to do this, the series pays tribute "for the first time" to the "thousands of police officers who fought and were not corrupted" by this conflict, she said.

Naranjo was born in Bogota in 1956 and became a police cadet in 1976, after which he dedicated 36 years of his life to public service.

Great feats have been attributed to Naranjo in the fight against the Medellin, Cali and Norte del Valle cartels, which were some of the world's most powerful drug trafficking organizations in the 1980s and 1990s.

Naranjo became the director of Colombia's National Police from 2007-2012 and was then appointed by President Juan Manuel Santos to take part in the peace talks between the Colombian government and the now-disbanded FARC guerrilla group.

Naranjo also served as vice president from March 2017 to August 2018 under President Santos.

Diego Mejia, one of the directors of the series, said that drug traffickers will not be portrayed as being "good-looking," "attractive" and "cultured," as has often been the case on television.
