Peaky Blinders is an English television crime drama set in 1920s Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War I. The series premiered on 12 September 2013, airing on BBC Two until the fourth season, and then shifting to BBC One for the fifth season.

The series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family and the fictional family is loosely based on a real 19th century urban youth gang of the same name, who were active in the city from the 1890s to the early twentieth century. The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Joe Cole, Paul Anderson, Sam Neill, Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Charlotte Riley and Sam Claflin.

The series was created by Steven Knight and produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions, Screen Yorkshire and Tiger Aspect Productions. Screen Yorkshire provided funding for the production through the Yorkshire Content Fund. It was the first production to receive funding from the Yorkshire Content Fund, which in turn made certain the majority of the show was filmed in Yorkshire as part of the deal.

Garnering critical acclaim and a passionate global audience, the series won Best Drama series at the 2018 BAFTA TV Awards. Netflix, under the deal with Weinstein Company and Endemol, had acquired the rights to air Peaky Blinders in America and around the world.
