PK Productions was founded in 2009 by Padraig Kennedy and aims to stage scarcely produced but socially important plays and musicals.
In 2009 the company took Eugene Ionesco’s The Lesson to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which was described as a ‘tour de force’ by The Scotsman. The radical interpretation of the absurdist play highlighted the social commentary on the rise of Nazism and emphasised the inefficiency of communication.
In 2010 the company, in association with Infinity Stage Company, staged The Laramie Projectby Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project, a verbatim theatre piece describing the aftermath of the homophobic murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.
In 2011 PK Productions, in association with 3BUGS Fringe Theatre, staged Peter Weiss’s Marat/Sadein an abandoned warehouse in Birmingham emphasising Artaudian elements of cruelty and vulgarity as a means of shocking the audience into understanding the absurdity of thoughtless persecution.
For their fourth project, PK Productions is devising Halbwelt Kultur.
