About me
My career in the film, TV and commercials industry spans over twenty years. Through the years I have covered virtually all departments in the world of VFX: onset supervision, data collection, design, modeling, rigging, previsualization, camera work, animation, lighting and compositing. In world of Feature Animation: script writing, budget, schedule, animation studio estimates (hardware, software, crew) designed pipeline and process for successful project completion; design, previsualization, character animation and performance, voice recording, editing, DI and sound mix. Commercials – Concepts, design, previs, shoot, VO, DI and sound mix. Over time my work responsibilities grew from several shots to sequences until I eventually arrived at handling entire projects. I became a proficient Animation Director and VFX Supervisor. Extensive experience in project bidding and scheduling naturally lead to VFX/Animation Producing which culminated through consulting and producing work I did for completion guarantors / bond companies.Work has taken me from Europe, through Middle East and Asia, Australia and Canada, to the United States. I have worked with and built VFX and Animation facilities (Jim Henson Creature Shop, Berliner Film Companie, etc.) around the world, collaborating with broad spectrum of artists and business entities. Building new facilities and designing pipelines required hiring talent from around the world, I always enjoyed the challenge to implement each company’s development plans and to meet on-going projects’ requirements 100%. My objectives in being the architect and manager of such facilities were to design software, pipelines, R&D and etc. that gave artists and technical directors the best platform to work with while constantly improving it and not compromising current projects in the pipeline and their delivery needs.
As VFX Supervisor/Producer or Animation Director my work primarily consists of scripts breakdown, character breakdown, design, rigging for performance, look development, camera work, editorial and consistency from beginning to the end including DI and sound mix.
I have an extensive experience in managing facilities, VFX and Animation studios, multiple projects at the same time, multiple departments, dailies, notes, deliverables, keeping in mind schedule and budget. Through this process I perfected the art of completing projects on time and on budget yet maintaining quality and creative integrity of the shows.
On the other hand, when consulting for completion guarantors / bond companies - troubleshooting projects required working with pre-existing studios, teams and structures. Improving relationships between them and corresponding productions, their talent base, procedures and gap closing between perceived problems were my daily routine. Mending human relationships, managing expectations and finishing project on time and on budget without compromising quality was my daily battle, which I won every time. This aspect of my career required a lot of traveling, visiting each studio and production, understanding their needs, making recommendations for successful completion and day-to-day management of dailies, deliverables, notes, cost reports and schedule changes, to name just a few.
Feature animation was important part of consulting. I have created process for International Film Guarantors of due diligence, milestones in every department, from asset management to actual shot production, that included deliverables, delivery structure, outsourcing, payment structure to name the few…
I have learned that in both cases excellent knowledge of the craft, managing people and expectations are crucial. On one side one must give attention to every facility, department and talent, and on the other side - cater to production needs, editorial changes and etc. while finally and most importantly arriving to fulfilling producer/distributor requirements and expectations.
Education - my background is BS studies in computer science. I have attended SIGGRAPH since 1993, scriptwriting, directing and acting courses, ACM courses and ASC courses. I follow latest technology trends and development of VFX and animation industry religiously.
