About me
Through life, I have always gone against the flow, and so far, I have been able to prove to many and myself that what I need to succeed is to have drive and belief in my dreams and to keep working towards them regardless of the odds. For me, that is where success truly begins. A friend of mine once expressed a comforting thought: “The vanguard of human creation is pushed forward by the heart of black sheep.” I live by that philosophy and apply it. Original thinking, communication, and teamwork. As a woman in Venezuela, it is a challenge to work in the film industry and be taken seriously. As much as I wanted to become someone who could speak out to share my creativity on set or in post-production, I was always limited by my gender and seen only as an apprentice. While this frustrated me, at the same time it built in me an unrelenting drive to be heard, especially when I have the opportunity to contribute with a good idea.
I see editors as “Creative Interpreters” – coming to post-production to bring logic to a challenging film puzzle that needs to be assembled correctly. The effort done by a big team of people throughout the production of a film lay on the hands of the editor, In their shoulders the mission of telling a story in the best way possible, and if its relevant enough, giving it the chance to transcend time and impact thousands of people forever.
Having gone through the process as a Director of giving my “baby” to an editor has been one of the most personally challenging things to do. With our films, we are exposing ourselves to the world with the hope to impact our surroundings. These stories we tell become so personal that we, as directors, can mistakenly believe nobody else will understand or give them justice in the way we would. Been an Editor is a huge responsibility.
As editors, our job is to lift off the Director’s shoulders some of the weight. When the director is confident about our abilities he/she can freely provide us with tools and guidance to get the best product possible. Our job is to get to the core of the story and make it translate on the screen in an efficient, creative, and engaging way.
I'm a person that finds a way even when we don’t have all that is needed. I have worked with less and done more than expected. When needed, I know how to push myself in positive ways, so I can find creative solutions and make original transitions and seamless VFX. These two elements have given me the freedom to express myself artistically while providing original solutions to films.
I am naturally a hard worker and have never shied away from complicated projects. Through careful thought, goal-setting, and hard work, I have been assigned to work on non-existent guideline logic assemblies, and still have provided directors the best possible options so their vision can come to life. All of the challenges I faced as an Editor I see as adventures where my creativity can be tested to the fullest. On every project, I give the best of me, and many times I have achieved outstanding results - I always want to surprise myself.
After graduating with a Master in Fine Arts in Filmmaking, it is clear to me that I am just starting on this journey of artistic expression. I can think of no better way to start that journey in this new country than by taking part in working side by side with people that I used to admire from a young age. Being chosen would sincerely be a dream come true. I am extremely honored and grateful for your consideration.
I want to spend my life creating in the film arts and working on projects I believe in.
