Kate has a bad home life, and her neighbor helps her ease her situation by teacher her to play piano

Kate has a neglectful father, and no mother in the picture. Her neighbor, Alan, befriends Kate and teaches her to play piano as an escape from her dysfunctional home life. Kate shyly asks Alan to escort her to her school's Father/Daughter dance. However, just as Alan finishes dressing for this occasion, ICE officers meet him at his front door and take him into custody. Kate witnessed the arrest and is heartbroken.
