Lamunan / Daydream

2015, 50 minutes

Lamunan Daydream is a film that portrays the lives of Muslim Indonesian street punks as they search for meaning in a world of poverty, pollution, and oppression.

the punk culture in Jakarta, bonded by poverty, ideals of anti-corruption, equality and a noninstitutional society, is embodied in the three punks Edo, Pot and Eka. The film reflects their inner struggle to realize those ideals and their external struggle to survive. They find selfempowerment in nature, through their own makeshift spiritual rite of passage that activates a supernatural, apocalyptic power. All the punks join together for the revolution. But this newfound willpower is an illusion, the apocalypse a dream, and the punks’ real situation is evident in their interviews. While others celebrate the opening of a shopping mall with fireworks, an old punk dies on the pile of trash. The punks are one with the decaying world they live in, and can not escape it.
