Obsidiana

2016, 90 minutes

Gavin returns home to find that things aren't quite as he left them.

Obsidiana is the story of Gavin - a middle-aged screenwriter working on low-budget movies down in Mexico - who comes home to visit his estranged father, Charlie - a retired production accountant who he hasn't seen in years. Among other surprises, Gavin finds his dad pursuing a career in acting, working with an over-enthusiastic and not-so-trustworthy "agent" named Eric, who claims to have Charlie's best interest at heart but...probably doesn't. While Charlie tries to convince Gavin his new career is legitimate, his son remains skeptical, spending the bulk of his time out and about, trying to sell his old Kawasaki Ninja motorbike, which attracts a strange, and amusing, array of interested buyers. Of course, in the end, the story is far more than a scene-by-scene synopsis can suggest, full of textures, moods, and nuances only the finished film can fully convey. To say more than that would risk spoiling the story, but you can trust that Obsidiana will be a wholly original experience, one that lingers long after the credits roll...
