Surviving Confession

2015, 90 minutes

A disgruntled priest, conflicted with his faith, has his world turned upside down when an unlikely person enters his confessional.

Father Morris (40-50s) is a dissatisfied priest who has not been happy with his job for some time. He often wonders if he is making a meaningful impact on the world, and whether he would be happier if he had done something else with his life. After hearing another unremorseful and untruthful confession from a parishioner (Rupert) who is cheating on his wife, a quick-witted teenager (Amber) comes into his confessional and starts to turn Father Morris’s life upside down. Amber questions everything Father Morris stands for, and begins to get under his skin in a way that hasn’t happened before. And no matter what he does, she just won’t leave! Throughout the evening, interesting characters pass through Father Morris’s confessional as he reflects on what matters most in his life and continues to quip with Amber, who slowly reveals why she came to confession. Will he go too far in trying to right other people’s sins? Or will he continue in the same ritualistic stagnation he’s be living in for years?
