Seeking composers for SPECULATIVE, COPYRIGHTED projects. Until such time as a show is optioned for professional production, neither the composer nor I will be compensated. I am retired on a limited income. If I were in a position to pay a composer for his services, then--like Disney--I would OWN all rights in the music, no matter how well-known my collaborator might be.The best deal I can offer is, if and when a project is optioned, we would--in most instances--split the Author's Advance, and ALL ROYALTIES equally instead of the Dramatists' Guild standard split of two-thirds to me for Book and Lyrics and only one-third to the composer. Where the libretto is based on or adapted from material copyrighted by a third party, the split would be one-third to each of us.Attached is a list of my copyrighted projects. When sufficient music is completed to our mutual satisfaction, it can be added to the original copyright at no additional cost.If for any reason we dissolve the collaboration agreement, all rights in the music will revert to the composer. All rights in the book, lyrics and concept will revert to me.Samples of my work as a lyricist may be found on YouTube, posted by the composer with whom I collaborated at the time as THE LONG, HOT SUMMER MUSICAL PROJECT. I was granted conditional stage adaptation rights to the screenplay of the 1958 film of the same name, pending a Hollywood big screen remake.Additional lyric samples may be found on my personal page at NumberOneMusic under the title ZARZUELA DE OVEJUNADOR (THE SHEEPHERDER'S OPERA), my adaptation and pseudonymous translation of Lope' de Vega's Spanish Golden Age (early 17th century) comedy, FUENTE' OVEJUNA (THE SHEEP WELL) which was based on actual historical events from the late 15th century during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella and the Reconquista. The original play consists to two subplots, unified by a single character--the antagonistic COMENDADOR whose exercise of the feudal Droit de Seigneur (right of the lord of the manor to "enjoy" the favors of a virgin bride on her wedding night, before her new husband is permitted to do so) leads to a peasant revolt which spreads throughout Spain. In order to more closely unify the two plots, the other of which concerns a revolt by some of the nobility against the king and queen, I turned the two protagonists into identical twins who were separated at birth and brought up very differently--one the eponymous Sheepherder, the other the noble Maestre of a quasi-religious military order--into identical twin brothers, with both roles to be performed by the same actor-singer.My tendency is to write for large casts, with a view towards amateur productions post-Broadway, whether colleges or community theaters. My writing style has been described as quasi-operatic, interweaving dialogue and dance almost inextricably with conventional 64-bar songs, recitative, aria and extended musical scenes. For additional information including my directing resume'--I try always to write from that perspective, with one eye on the practicalities of staging and the other on the bottom line of the budget--and support material.Thank you and best wishes for the new year.
