    Our University’s School of Theater seeks a teaching artist/educator who embraces and reflects a broad multi-cultural view. The candidate will work with the current faculty to reimagine the Production Design and Technology (PD&T) curriculum to create a more inclusive environment. Details: https://www.ohio.edu/hr/benefits/.Responsibilities Include:• Providing artistic and educational leadership for the costume design area through teaching costume design in MFA and BFA programs; and• Teaching Introduction to Design Skills; Costume History; Costume Design; and Rendering.Critically important is strong supervision and mentorship of student designers including:• Production;• Portfolio guidance; and• Facilitating professional internships.Additional duties include:• Participation in production planning;• Managing costume stock;• Student recruitment; and• Service on academic committees.The Production Design and Technology (PD&T) program is committed to a collaborative design process and specialized training in theatrical design and technology. The candidate will have:• Demonstrated teaching skills;• Teaching experience with graduate students;• Experience in budgeting and responsible handling of funds for materials purchasing;• Sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists and student performers, and proven ability to work well with others;• Knowledge of computers (Microsoft products) and standard information technology;• High degree of interpretive, interpersonal and communication skills;• Exceptional organization, and time and materials estimation skills; and• Act as a mentor and advisor to students.We are aware of the historical tokenization and exploitation of BIPOC faculty and staff in academia. Resources include but are not limited to on-campus support services, community centers, and grant opportunities.Minimum QualificationsEducation + Pedagogy• Possess an MFA or MA in relevant theater arts, a track record of community-based theater engagement, or equivalent professional experience;• Demonstrate an ability to reimagine and decolonize typical “canonical” curriculum by engaging with new works that investigate perspectives beyond those of our predominately Western culture;• Demonstrate a commitment to recruiting and building relationship with pipeline schools; and• Demonstrate a commitment to self-education, cultural awareness, justice, and growth to solidify connections between faculty and students.Anti-Racism + Equity• Demonstrate an awareness of the intersections and inequalities of the student body and is specific about how they care for students through resources and opportunities;• Demonstrate a willingness to join a community that’s committed to naming white supremacy culture in the workplace and to be part of a School of Theater that endeavors to dismantle it;• Demonstrate experience creating, implementing, cultivating, and maintaining a diversity of perspectives in theater training; and• Have a record of challenging existing hierarchical structures in theater by fostering collaboration across disciplines.Innovation• Demonstrate an ability for research and the integration of technological advancements in the discipline of live theater in order to bridge the industry and educational gap for students; and• Proven record of prioritizing innovation to foster creative thought.Lived Experience + Artistic Philosophy• Possess a personal, individual, and intentional style that’s approachable onstage, offstage, and in the classroom;• Possess clear goals in artistic practice; and• Demonstrate ways in which their experiences have shaped their view of the theater of the future.
