We seek someone who shares The Hartt School’s values of high standards of teaching, performing, scholarship, and learning.Responsibilities The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to make ongoing contributions to scholarly publications and presentations and have expertise in several of the following areas: Vocal Development K-6, Foundations of Music Education, World Music for Music Educators, Technology for Music Educators, Student Teaching Seminar, and/or graduate research courses. Candidates will be expected to engage in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.Additionally, the candidate must be able to supervise student teachers, advise undergraduate and graduate students, supervise theses and/or dissertations, recruit music education students, and work closely with area school music teachers on a variety of initiatives.There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program.Research opportunities at the University of Hartford include two Magnet Schools and community/civic organizations in the greater Hartford urban area.Candidates are encouraged to describe any particular expertise in curriculum development related to equity, diversity, and social justice in music education.Applications received by March 15, 2021 will be prioritized.Required Qualifications An earned doctorate in music education is required; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date. Candidates will have a minimum of three years experience working with PK-6 music students in a school in which students were not auditioned/selected. Candidates should provide evidence of or evidence of potential for quality scholarship through publications and professional presentations on any topic(s) of import to the music education profession. Candidates should: have experience in a range of elementary pedagogies, have knowledge of practices in the decolonization of the music classroom, be dedicated to culturally responsive and sustaining music pedagogies, have experience or knowledge about working with students with atypical learning needs, have knowledge of and engagement in a wide range of musics beyond the canonic Western literature, and demonstrate skill in and knowledge of the vocal development of young children.Preferred Qualifications Diversity Statement The University of Hartford is an open and welcoming community, which values diversity in all its forms.
