Our News Station in Rockford, Illinois, seeks an executive producer/assignment editor who will help lead and manage news coverage across television and digital platforms. The top candidate will work closely with the news director and other staff members on day-to-day operations in the newsroom. The ideal candidate will be aggressive in pursuing breaking news, excel in uncovering news and take the lead in digital coverage. They will work with the WIFR news team to “own” the big stories of the day and create collaboration that provides accurate and compelling information to our viewers.The executive producer/assignment editor will help with our new OTT desk and work with multimedia journalists and producers to generate the best coverage in the market. You must be familiar with many social media and digital platforms. You must be a risk taker and think outside the box.Your primary responsibilities will include the following:• Work with digital team, as well as initiate and manage content delivery on all WIFR platforms• Set an urgent and aggressive tone in the newsroom• Make editorial decisions on content• Work with the news director to effectively communicate goals and plans for the newsroom and ensure those plans are carried out by all staff members• Assisting morning, evening and weekend producers and reporters with story development and assignment• Execute breaking news and First Alert weather coverage plans• Plan and execute “big story” coverage• Participate in editorial and planning meetings• Work with producers and reporters to enterprise and generate content• Maintain a high level of confidentiality• Execute strategies developed by news department and station management• Perform other duties as assigned• Monitor the competition and their storiesAPPLICATION DEADLINE: Open until further notice.
