    Theater Director and Acting Teacher (Full-time) - Our Jewish Community High School needs an amazing Theater Director and Acting Teacher like you beginning with the 2021-22 school year. This position is responsible for the overall artistic vision for our theater department and successful implementation of that vision. The Theater Director is supported by the Technical Director, Operations Manager, and Musical Director. The role of the Theater Director is to oversee and manage this team in coordinating and administering our well-developed high school theater program through classroom teaching, clubs, and oversight of all theater productions and programs.As an Acting Teacher you will be expected to:Serve as Acting Teacher: Teach an acting and one other arts/humanities class which will serve as an opportunity for students to extend their creativity and skill base. You will be working alongside and collaborating with faculty, staff and administration who encourage innovative teaching, expect professional growth, embrace research based pedagogy, and maintain a welcoming, equitable and inclusive environment.Support students and the JCHS community by engaging in life outside the classroom through activities such as club advising, student mentoring, and attending school events and trips. This will also include writing recommendations and coaching college audition monologues.As Theater Director you will be expected to:Artistic Direct the co-curricular theater program: Develop and expand an inclusive vision for the program which celebrates student creativity as well as reflects, supports and promotes the spirit of the JCHS mission and community. Collaborate with community stakeholders to develop events, and productions which advance the student experience and further the school’s visibility in the Bay Area and beyond. Work closely with the Technical Director to develop on training programs for work on and off stage.Produce the school’s theater productions: Select shows (currently three per year), in partnership with the school administration. Manage the creative team, which includes a staff Technical Director and Operations Manager, and determine/delegate tasks unique to each production. Create a production calendar with clear deadlines and meeting dates. Work with the operations manager and marketing department to develop a strategy for audience development and production.Direct the school’s theater productions: Lead the student artists, whom you cast and recruited, toward a production that displays their talents, reflects their perspective, and broadens their understanding. Develop a rehearsal schedule which respects the student’s mental health and academic needs. Mentor the student stage managers and other students on the creative leadership team. Create a vision for each show and see it through. Make fun and important theater!
