Position SummaryThe School of Music seeks adjunct faculty for Academic Year 2021-2022 to teach one section of a graduate review course in Music Theory, two sections of first-year Music Theory in Fall quarter 2021, and two sections of first-year Music Theory in Spring quarter 2022. Graduate Music Theory Review will be eight meetings during the Fall quarter, tentatively Tuesdays 6:00-7:50 p.m. Music Theory I will be Fall and Spring quarters on Tuesdays/Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 12 noon.Essential FunctionsTeaching and grading.Maintain office hours, supervise Graduate Teaching Assistants for Theory I.Courses may be split between different instructors depending upon scheduling and expertise.Teaching is expected to be in person, with the exception of potential tightened COVID restrictions that may result in online or hybrid instruction.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to teach undergraduate and graduate music majors.Awareness and demonstrated competence in contemporary approaches to music theory pedagogy.Required QualificationsMaster’s degree in Music Theory or Composition.Prior teaching experience at the university level, graduate student teaching included.Experience and knowledge with music pedagogical technology and the Canvas online learning platform.Preferred QualificationsPhD or ABD in Music Theory or Composition.2-4 years of successful teaching experience at the university level, graduate student teaching included.Course RateGraduate Music Theory Review Course $2,500Music Theory 1 $2,116.50 per section (total of four sections)
