The Technical Director has the responsibility for the technical operations of NHTP productions, including lighting, sound, set design and construction, props and costumes, as well as coordinating necessary maintenance of the facility and equipment at NHTP’s 50-seat blackbox theatre in the heart of the city's vibrant west end, 959 Islington Street, Portsmouth NH 03801. Hours are flexible but must include oversight of all productions during tech week and strike.Responsibilities and DutiesThe Technical Director (TD) is responsible for any or all of the following: Maintains and safeguards the technical assets and systems of the theatre, including the operation of lighting, sound, and communications equipment, Coordinate technical aspects of each on-stage program with ED and individual production directors.Organizes and maintains inventory of all technical equipment and tools.Monitors the condition of lighting, sound, and video equipment and tools; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.Consults with the ED and other staff on the preparation and control of production budgets; and orders specialized supplies.Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of technical staff for individual shows.Monitors Tech Week rehearsals as needed (may not need to be present for all rehearsals).Monitors production strike at close of the run of each  show. Candidate would also be considered for design opportunities and compensated additionally.Qualifications and SkillsThe candidate should have a relevant bachelor's degree in the field of Technical Theatre Production, or commensurate experience. An additional three to five years experience of technical theatre production is recommended. Technical skills and knowledge of theatre production and equipment is required, including stage, set, sound, projection and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; and appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Knowledge of pre-recorded & live digital streaming methods is a plus. Candidate should also have the ability to: Analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; Plan, develop, schedule and provide the technical supports required for different events and performances; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment;Maintain inventory of necessary supplies; Assist in budget preparation; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and guest artists.
