  • Project Details
    The ideal candidate should have 1-2 years’ experience working in an administrative role, be highly visual and interested in photography, and familiar with photo editing for media. This position works closely with the Photography Manager to input caption sheets, compile photo credits, maintain publishing specific database of photos, assist photo editors with photo research and licensing requests and photo edit 1-5 books per year. This position must maintain the National Geographic level of excellence in photography. Works closely with editors and designers to produce photographic content for series titles. Responsible for ensuring that all resources are being used properly regarding copyright. Works with manufacturing and the Photo Manager to ensure quality color reproduction on all photos being used in kids’ books products. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, photographers, stock agencies, amateur photographers, and other outside sources to license photography. Must be artistic and have an eye for photography and color to keep up with current trends and be organized and efficient with strong communication skills. Must have basic skills in Photoshop, Bridge, Acrobat, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and offer a consistent roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.Responsibilities:You Will:Gather and enter caption and credit info into appropriate database for their own projects as well as for the other photo editors on staff.Maintain Media Grid database by inputting keywords and uploading files.Assist photo editors with photo research and licensing requestsSource photographic content for approx. 1-5 series continuation titles each year.Thoroughly research concepts and subject matter to obtain the best quality and most eye-catching photography that is possible to license.Work with manufacturing to assure accurate color reproduction quality, being mindful of schedules and budgets.Research, download, and organize images for Spot Photo Pools as needed.Negotiate competitive rates with photo sources.Stay abreast of trends in market research that pertain to audience and buyer.Follow brand style guide and photo process guides to implement research for photosPartner with Kids publishing group to brainstorm ideas with editors.Responsible for high-quality reproduction in alignment with National Geographic's visual reputation.Any other administrative duties that may be requiredAssist photo editors with studio and on-location photo shoots
