Seeking a makeup artist to do makeup for two actors max; the studio is south of DTLA for $125, minutes from USC campus; it would usually be (8:30-9:30 a.m.) and could be as short as a half hour in the studio; this unconventional structure does not reflect future day rates for longer shoots. Note: Makeup plays a crucial, but slightly different relationship in this animated world; production does a nice flat base, contours a hard-edged under-chin area, and then brings it home with a few painted-on white highlights on the nose and chin.

There was only one problem. The process took FOREVER. Enter my partner, Eric – a computer scientist and filmmaker who literally built USC Film school’s motion-capture program. He too had a passion for telling giant, expansive stories on less-than-expansive budgets, and he also had a key insight. We could use the same technology that Disney’s The Mandalorian was using, to build a real-time version of my animation process. So that’s what we’ve been doing.
