    The OpportunityCal Shakes is hiring a Follow Spot Operator/Electrician, who will serve as a member of the creative and dynamic Electrics Department for our 4 Mainstage shows. The Spot Operator reports to the Lead Electrician for their primary function, which is to operate follow spots and perform pre-show checks during technical rehearsals and all performances; this may include assisting the run crew with sweeping the deck and performing other preshow duties. Have a minimum of one year professional experience working as an electrician with basic electrics troubleshooting skills. Have experience and/or professional-level training with a variety of lighting equipment, including Colortran instruments, ETC products. Candidates should have good time management and be able to work unsupervised. Be comfortable working at heights (ladders, genie lifts, catwalks, and truss), and be able to lift 30 pounds over your head. Previous outdoor theater experience preferred.Special Environmental FactorsTheater is open-air with extended standing and walking on uneven surfaces.Work at the theater includes exposure to sunlight, and hot and very cold weather for extended periods of time. The follow spot positions are high off the ground, and have high exposure to wind.Variable schedule requires evening and weekend hours during technical rehearsals. Some work calls can end as late as 4:30 am, but often around 2:30 am. This position is available starting June 5th, 2018 through October 14, 2018. Possibility of an earlier start date for electrics work calls. There’s also the possibility of working on one or all of our 4 mainstage shows.This is a Seasonal/Non-Exempt/Hourly position. Hourly range $13.75-$16 per based on experience.Application deadline March 24, 2018. Cal Shakes is unable to provide local housing or travel assistance.
