The Worst Witch is a British TV series based on the best-selling children's books written and illustrated by Jill Murphy - the books have sold over five million copies internationally. Its huge success has resulted in the release of a TV film in 1986, a TV series in 1998 (with two spin-off series in 2001 and 2005) and, most recently, a brand new series in 2017.
The Worst Witch focusses on Mildred Hubble, a young witch who attends Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, a school of magic. Although well-intentioned, Mildred's clumsy personality leads the girl to disastrous situations, and she is thus considered the worst student in the school. Each episode usually results in Mildred overcoming her issues and saving the day.
Launched in January 2017, The Worst Witch is a co-production between CBBC, ZDF, and Netflix and has since been released internationally on Netflix as a Netflix Original. The series has starred Bella Ramsey and Lydia Page as Mildred Hubble, Jenny Richardson as Ethel Hallow, Meibh Campbell and Megan Hughes as Maud Spellbody and Claire Higgins as Miss Ada Cackle.
