The aim of the Nottingham Arts Theatre is to be a community theatre for the people of Nottingham. It strives to offer "opportunities for all" in the performing arts. NAT was established in July 2001 by members of the former Co-Operative Arts Theatre Club, who raised the funds to purchase the building and assets from The Co-Operative Wholesale Society.
It is a registered charity governed by a Board of Directors. Although the theatre does have paid employees, the majority of the work is done by unpaid volunteers. NAT has its own in-house theatre company which presents a season of plays, musicals, and pantomime. We also stage joint productions with other theatre companies as well as hire the theatre out to other companies, both amateur and professional, from all sections of the artistic community. The main source of income for the theatre is from the in-house and visiting productions; we do however gratefully acknowledge the support we receive from ACE, Arts and Business, Nottingham City council, and private donations.
