  • About
In November 2001, the Academy Music Group opened its third "Academy" branded venue in Bristol. The Carling Academy Bristol has fast become an essential part of the local nightlife, bringing its unique blend of quality live music and top UK club nights to the West Country.

Choc-full of atmosphere from floor to ceiling, Carling Academy Bristol caters for the wide and varied musical demands of its demographic; from sexy clubbers wanting hip hop, deep house and drum 'n' bass, to students rockin' out to cutting edge UK and US garage. Since October 2001, gig lovers young and old have flocked through its doors for fantastic views of live performances from internationally acclaimed artists. Thom Yorke's impromptu guest slot with DJ Shadow in May 2002 is a fitting example of the venue's quick rise to fame and has proved itself to be the perfect focal point for the South West's exceptionally creative cultural scene.

A key date on the UK's touring circuit, the Carling Academy Bristol has seen a host of internationally acclaimed artists take the stage in its brief, exciting history. From Ian Brown to the Gorillaz, The Charlatans to DJ Shadow the venue has proved itself to artists and audiences alike as the place to experience live music in Bristol.

A wide variety of club nights take place at the Academy, including weekly events from Bristol's most popular student night ComePlay every Thursday during term time and Ramshackle every Friday. Saturday club residencies vary each month, with regular, specialist events courtesy of leftfield and breakbeat supremos, BlowPop, as well as hard dance nights through to house classics from dance promoters Scream. Drum & Bass nights come from Revolution, One Nation, Liquidiser, Full Cycle and Drive By.

The Academy Music Group is very proud of the part the venue has already played in enriching the vibrant cultural life of the city, building on the unrivalled success of the Academy venues in Brixton and Birmingham. Moving forward the eclectic diary of events Carling Academy Bristol offers some 100 gigs and 150 club nights per year and the management focus strongly on offering audiences the highest quality artists with the best sound, lighting, service and space in the business.

To facilitate this, an extensive programme of internal developments have been undertaken improving sightlines, capacity, toilet facilities, bar access, and production - ensuring that the Academy brand become synonymous with the very best in live music and clubbing with the highest standards of facilities on offer to the customer, artist and client alike.
