Castle Howard is a beautiful 18th century palace sitting in 1,000 acres of gardens. It is well known for its towering dome, the first of its kind on a private House in Britain. Castle Howard's interiors are dramatic and intimate, from the grandeur of the Great Hall, with the Pellegrini frescos under the dome, to the vivid Turquoise Drawing Room.
You can explore Castle Howard at your own pace, and discover beautiful bedrooms, the grandeur of the Long Gallery and the ornate Chapel. Our friendly guides are located throughout the House, ready to tell stories of the house, family and collections.
Castle Howard's collections are world renowned and include paintings, porcelain, statuary and furniture. These collections have been gathered by succeeding generations and sit alongside modern portraits and recent family photographs, many taken by the Hon. Simon Howard, a keen photographer.
Chairs are placed along your route, allowing your time to rest while taking in the splendid interiors and garden views. The house opens at 11.00am with last admissions at 4.00pm. With a valid ticket you can enter the house as many times as you like during your visit.
