The Arts University Bournemouth, established in 1885 as a specialist institute, is now a leading university sector institution offering high quality specialist education in arts, design and media across the creative industries. We remain passionate about our subjects and continue to encourage curiosity, risk-taking and adventure in exploring and pushing subject knowledge and its boundaries. The Arts Institute provides staff and students with a well resourced environment in which to practise to the highest professional standards.
The gallery is a major resource for contemporary visual art at the Institute and has received regional and national recognition.
The gallery has regular exhibitions from some of today's leading artists and critical writers including Ian McKeever and David Miller (poet); and Susan Stockwell and Rosemary Miles (Curator, Victoria & Albert Museum). It also shows collections on loan from other galleries and museums.
The gallery functions as a learning resource and is integrated into the teaching, learning and research practice undertaken at the Institute. Student work is displayed in the Summer Show exhibitions and students also have the opportunity to propose or curate shows as part of the gallery programme.
