Seven is an independent community arts space in Chapel Allerton, Leeds 7, designed by OSA Architects Ltd. The aim is to deliver and enable high quality arts activity. The space is small but versatile, providing a 100 seat venue for film, theatre, dance, music, words and comedy, together with an attractive and welcoming cafe bar.
Seven arts centre is the culmination of 10 years of effort since a group of local residents first got together to find ways to improve community spirit through involvement in the arts. An exhibition of ideas and possibilities led to Chapel Allerton Arts Festival and the determination to create a place for arts activity.
We see Seven as having a pivotal role in linking the various cultures along the Leeds 7 corridor, hence the name. It is accessible to a wide range of people, through its good location, well thought-out physical design and varied artistic programme.
Seven is a Community Interest Company, a new type of not-for-profit organisation. As a CIC, Seven sets out a social mission and provides an annual transparent account of how it delivers on this work. It is governed by a small board of Directors.
Seven has been supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
