The Rose Theatre

  • About
The Rose is London's most historic theatre, the first Elizabethan Theatre on Bankside and home to many of Shakespeare's and Marlowe's first productions. Plans are in place to complete the excavation and open it to the public permanently. When it was erected in 1587 the Rose was only the fifth purpose-built theatre in London, in an area already rich in other leisure attractions such as brothels, gaming dens and bull/bear-baiting arenas.
