Not every major theatre remembers the budding talent on its doorstep. Some are so booked up with professional productions that they understandably have to turn down pleas to stage non-professional shows. Others do not have a reasonable excuse and look down their noses at such requests.
Not Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre though.
Attendance figures at the venue have doubled in the last 4 -5 years and the theatre is continuing to attract some of the best productions around for a small-scale theatre that residents have previously had to travel outside of town to see. However it still finds time to host productions for over a dozen community groups, alongside professional shows.
Highlights in the Spring Season include:-
* Hold Tight It's 60's Night (May 4)
* Pinocchio (May 6)
* 20th Century Rock and Pop Musicals (May 10)
* At the Hop (June 9)
* All Our Yesterdays (June 14)
The 406-seater Victorian complex provides excellent workshop facilities for dance and performance and is now even licensed to hold weddings.
The venue was refurbished a decade ago as part of the Government-funded City Challenge scheme. Community groups can enjoy working with state of the art sound engineering and lighting.
Then there are large dressing rooms, a licensed bar and dance studio.
