An extremely flexible and fully equipped performance space, the John Thaw Studio Theatre seats up to 150 and can be adapted to suit a wide variety of theatre presentations, including theatrical productions, experimental performance and music theatre.
The theatre is used for a diverse range of performances, rehearsals and workshops, and also as a venue for visiting professional companies and artists.
The theatre is also particularly valuable as a place where students make their own independent experiments in theatre - as performers, writers, directors and technicians. Many alumni have commented on what an important part these performances played in their creative and intellectual development during their time at university. The twice-yearly Independent Production (selected from submitted entries) provides the opportunity for students to fully stage a play for a public audience. The Studio Theatre is managed by our dedicated and experienced technical staff, Karl Spencer (Technical Services Manager) Daniel Power (Drama Technican) and Andrew Davison (Music Technician).
The John Thaw Studio Theatre
The John Thaw Studio Theatre is named after the actor John Thaw in recognition of the generous support from The John Thaw Foundation.
