New Wimbledon Theatre

  • About
New Wimbledon Theatre and Studio are two of the region’s leading live entertainment venues, showcasing the best West End, local and touring productions from across the UK each and every year.

Built in 1910 and now approaching its centenary year, New Wimbledon Theatre is the Grand Old Lady of Wimbledon’s Broadway. A Grade II listed building, the Georgian Renaissance style frontage is topped by the Goddess of Gaiety, a winged angel standing high on the dome watching out over London. Inside, the walls and ceilings are decorated with painted and sculpted figures in the style of the Italian Renaissance.

Over the years such legendary stars as Gracie Fields, Ivor Novello, Nöel Coward, Marlene Dietrich, Laurel & Hardy, Dirk Bogarde, John Mills, Frankie Howerd, Norman Wisdom, Tommy Steele, Timothy Dalton and Joan Collins have all graced the New Wimbledon Theatre stage. The theatre has also hosted the world premieres of Half A Sixpence and Oliver.
