One Mayfair

  • About
One Mayfair, formerly St. Mark’s Church was constructed between 1825 and 1828 in order to tackle the shortage of ‘church sittings’ in the area. At the time, the population in Mayfair had grown as a result of aristocrats and the wealthy from the country seeking city residences.

The Grade I listed building was constructed in Greek revival style to the designs of John Peter Gandy. Gandy was highly regarded in Greek architecture and produced most of his work in neo-classical designs, with One Mayfair being one of the finest examples.

In 1878, Sir Arthur Bloomfield made significant changes to the church, such as the impressive timber roof covering the main body of the structure as well as extra features in gothic style. The 34 foot façade together with the elegant porch is known as one of the finest in London.
The Grade I listed building has been included on English Heritage’s ‘Buildings at Risk’ register for 20 years. It was deconsecrated in the 1970's and it is currently under a restoration scheme for its vital preservation. Hiring One Mayfair for your event will contribute to the conservation of this historical building.
