The Brewhouse, was built in 1977 and aspires to be the cultural centre of Taunton; innovative and creative, locally, regionally and nationally distinctive, presenting live performance and art exhibitions of the highest quality. We reach out to our local and regional communities with arts participation and education which are fulfilling and life enhancing.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the organisation, which is managed by the Director and a professional team of staff and volunteers. The Trust gratefully acknowledges the financial support of all our funders and extends special thanks to Taunton Deane Borough Council, whose generous support for the wide-range of work has made the theatre and arts centres’ success possible.
In 2004/2005 the venue saw over 150,000 attendances and enjoys the support of over 450 Friends. We are proud to announce that we have also recently been awarded a Regional Access Award for our work to make the Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre accessible to all our users. Almost all of our areas are level and easily accessible, we have conveniently located parking, ramped access and removable seats for wheelchair users.
Our full and varied live programme caters for all ages and includes a wide range of touring music, drama, children’s theatre, dance, opera, ballet and comedy.
The Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre operates an extensive education and outreach programme of youth and community activity which provides people with the opportunity for creative expression and cultural development.
The Brewhouse closed in February 2013 when it went into administration. The Taunton Theatre Association was formed and now operate the Theatre & Arts Centre as a Community led initiative.
