Raspberry ribbon

2010, 5 minutes

Coming of age film set in 1940s

A young Jewish girl called Charlotte prepares herself for a joyful day in her bedroom somewhere in Nazi occupied Europe. She is full of hope for the future. She dresses herself and checks herself in her mirror. She decides not to wear her Star of David. She ties a beautiful raspberry ribbon around her waist - a symbol of hope, joy and youth. In a moment of rebellion she flings back her blackout curtains and strides out into the street. Coming across two Nazi soldiers she steps out of the way, exchanging flirtatious glances with the younger soldier. The older soldier feels sure he's seen her somewhere before and realises she is a Jew. As Charlotte walks away, her ribbon loosens and falls to the ground. The younger soldier picks it up and hands it back to her. She leaves the younger soldier falling in love with her in that moment. Sudddenly, Charlotte is shot by the older soldier. She dies in the street - her Raspberry Ribbon in her hand.
