About me
Christopher Robson was born in Scotland in 1953. Over the last 43 years he has made a unique contribution to the world of concerts, Opera, & Music-Theatre, and is admired and respected for the energy & commitment of his performances. His early years as a young session singer and concert & opera soloist culminated in his 1981 debut at the English National Opera in David Freeman's groundbreaking production of Monteverdi's L'ORFEO, and over the following 3 decades he won critical acclaim for his many performances at the ENO (most recently as Edward Kelley in Damon Albarn's DR DEE).Christopher has appeared in opera houses, concert halls and festivals throughout the world, working with many of the opera and music scene's best conductors, musicians, and directors. He has made countless radio & television appearances and has a distinguished discography. He has also created many roles specially written for him, and continues to champion contemporary and new music for the countertenor voice.
In 1994 he made his debut as a principal guest artist with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in Handel's GIULIO CESARE. Once again he created a unique artistic niche for himself, provoking praise and sometimes controversy in 10 productions over 13 years. In 1997 and 2002 he was awarded the "Münchener Opernfestspiel Preis", and remains the only person to have received the award twice in the history of the Munich Opera Festival.
In 2003, in recognition of his achievements in Music and the Arts, the Bavarian State honoured him with the title "Bayerischer Kammersänger" (Ks). His artistic and personal ties to Munich were so strong that he eventually settled there in late 2007.
