About me
Russell Eatough is a UK based director producer and writer whose global broadcast experience spans science, comedy, the arts, music and drama.Russell's recent work on new series 'Dangerous Persuasions' (Discovery ID) explores ordinary relationships pushed to the extreme in 2 gripping true stories of brainwashing and psychological control. Russell's smart, insightful scripts are expertly realised on screen with superb dramatic performances driven by intensely emotional interviews. 'Dangerous Persuasions' is already proving to be a ratings winner.
The evolving drama documentary format has become a fascinating arena for Russell's skills. As a writer/director on internationally acclaimed series like 'Locked Up Abroad' (National Geographic) and 'I Shouldn't Be Alive' (Animal Planet) he has relished pushing the boundaries of interview-led drama, reaching new audiences with powerful human stories.
Russell's background as a film editor gives him the insight to shape stories that punch way above their budget - and his work is always a feast for the senses as well as the mind. As director and cameraman on 'Mind Body And Kick Ass Moves' (BBC) he was able to ensure the cutting room had what it needed to make this ten-part martial arts series one of the BBC's most popular international sales.
The ground-breaking series 'Seconds From Disaster' (National Geographic) was Russell's opportunity to inject real heart into factual investigative programmes. Covering some of the biggest stories of recent years- from the 2004 Asian Tsunami to the sinking of Russia's nuclear submarine, Kursk, his search for truth extended beyond unpacking the facts to examining the appalling human cost. Films like 'Situation Critical: Apollo 13' (National Geographic) set new standards for seamless integration of drama with archive and reinvigorated a well-worn story with stunning new revelations that kept audiences on the edge of their seats.
Russell will continue to build on the success of his TV career and is developing feature-length drama and drama-documentary projects.
