A girl who sees holes versus a deranged psychologist.

At school in the forties, a girl with no family but a sister who committed suicide develops a fixation with digging holes in everything. Having tried everything else, the school turns to a strange, mute psychologist with bizarre methods of study. In fact, seen from the outside his methods seem to approach torture, and Emily must resort to any means she can to retake her freedom.
