How long to get paid?

I have been waiting 3 months for payment. Is this normal in UK? I an new here. I've been acting in Canada for over a decade, and there if you are not paid within 14 days the union gets involved (all work worth doing in Canada is union work. I know it is different here.) This job though was non-union.
It was for a rehearsal for a commercial. Me and other actor were both pencilled and to determine who actually got the job, we both had to do a 4 hour dance rehearsal to learn a routine and they would cast based on that. I was to get £300 for the rehearsal. (It was over zoom and kept cutting out and a terrible experience overall). I did not book the job in the end but invoiced the agreed rehearsal fee.
After a month my agent chased and told me these things can take ages. After the second month my agent says he chased again. It is now 3 months. What do I do? Just keep getting my agent to chase? Such a small amount obviously isn't a priority to him or to me really but it is the principle of the matter.

I don't have an agent and I ended up sending a Letter Before Action last year to a company who still hadn't paid me after over three months, and lots of chasing and promises and then being ignored. It's basically you stating your intent to take them to Small Claims Court, and it's a standard proforma - you can find templates online. I sent it to the Accounts Dept but also found the FD and MD's email address on the website and sent it to them as well. It got the desired result, after a few more cock ups which added a couple of days' delay ("Oh, sorry. She didn't tick the box for faster payments" kind of nonsense)

I think was lucky, because I subsequently found the company reviews on Glassdoor which were nothing but freelancers complaining about not getting paid, for up to a year. They've since dissolved under their old name and rebranded under a new one.
