A husband, Richard, bids an emotional farewell to his dying wife, Melissa. Flashbacks of this tearful scene interrupt scenes of Richard in a desolate state, Richard finally hearing from their daughter, Rachael in a panic-stricken phone call and scenes of Richard trapped with an unknown threat trying to break in to his safe-haven. With a final request from Melissa for Richard to make sure she doesn't turn into "one of them", Melissa dies in the arms of her husband. Richard tries to fulfill her request but cannot. Retreating downstairs, he waits. Inevitably, the horrifying sight of his wife's reanimated corpse enters the room with the intent to kill him. With instructions from his beloved wife to look after their daughter, Richard does battle for his and Rachael's life.
