Danny Boyle leaves new James Bond movie due to 'creative differences'

A statement posted by the official 007 Twitter account reads: "Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences, Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25.”

The new James Bond movie, which stars Daniel Craig as the secret agent, was slated for a November 8 2019 release date and filming was expected to commence this December.

It is unknown whether shooting or the release date will now be pushed back.

Boyle, known for Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, joined the project in March of this year.

Earlier this month, movie bosses announced that "it is time" for a non-white 007.

The Equalizer 2 director Antoine Fuqua recounted a conversation he shared with producer Barbara Broccoli, stating the producer said "it will happen eventually."

He also hinted that Luther actor Idris Elba could be in the running, saying: "“Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”

There have been 24 James Bond movies to date, starting with Sean Connery as 007 in Dr. No in 1962.

Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have also played the role over the years.

American Beauty director Sam Mendes helmed the last two films in the franchise, Skyfall and Spectre, the former grossing over $1.1billion (£805m) at the box office.
