Bio
Matt Musgrove lives for telling stories. He is an Ovation! nominated actor and Actors Equity Association member with a BFA from Ithaca College in Musical Theater. He is also SAG-ELIG. with a range of experience as a production coordinator, director, assistant director, stage manager, writer, house manager, lighting and sound technician, location manager, editor, camera operator, audio engineer (designing, editing, mixing, and mastering), and actor in numerous films, television series, national commercials, a national tour, and stage productions.
He has worked for such regional theaters as Company of Fools, Laughing Stock Theater, The Argyros, and Opera Idaho, as well as venues in California and New York, such as The Colony Theater, Third Street Theater, Elephant Stages, The Fugitive Kind, The Hangar Theatre, and Cider Mill Playhouse. Within his film and television career, Matt has worked for NBC, Universal Studios, and The Oxygen! Network. He also had the great pleasure of filming in Beijing for the pilot of a television series, “The Zodiac Fighters”, where he went through a crash course of martial arts and wirework. All this to say, Matt has extensive experience in a variety of performance mediums and skills in various technical aspects of production.
Matt has had the pleasure of teaching in education outreach programs such as Arts Umbrella musical theater camp, Laughing Stock musical theater camp, zoom monologue workshops with the Sun Valley Museum of Art for Wood River Middle School, choreography and directing for high schools in Los Angeles, and performance workshops with the Oregon Festival of American Music. Currently, Matt is enrolled at Boise State University for their online courses in Nonprofit Management.
Beyond the stage, camera, and classroom, Matt was raised as a third-generation funeral director attendant in Eugene, Oregon. He has worked in the funeral industry for over fifteen years where he gained skills in organizing funeral events and running day-to-day operations for the funeral homes he worked at and lived in, both in Oregon and Los Angeles. As you can imagine, the funeral industry holds no room for error. The sensitive business of funeral directing provided Matt with many skills in customer service, administrative work, and management. This work included handling certified documents by The California Secretary of State (death certificates, human remains release forms, personal effects forms, and first call forms), organizing events (graveside, memorial, and crematorium services), monitoring inventory, meeting with families of the deceased, being available at all times for the transportation of the deceased, relations with law enforcement, physicians, and government employees, directing funerals by coordinating with churches and clergy members, and managing funeral arrangements and cemetery personnel. The powerful impact of community and empathy were deeply instilled in Matt’s life through his experiences as a funeral director and this love for people reflects in his art.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Matt has been given the time to produce, write, direct, and edit a new short story podcast anthology called Earwrym. With this podcast series, he has already created a strong community of talent.
Matt firmly believes there is hope to keep theater alive during these difficult times.
