About me
Adam Brummitt, at thirty-two (born the Ides of March) is, and has been since its formation in 2001, the principal Artistic Director of Random Acts Theatre. In his now decade-long time as artistic director, from playing to houses of ten, sold out performances, and back again, Brummitt has operated in the capacity of playwright, director, actor, and designer as well as directing and assistant directing for companies other than Random Acts.In its time, Random Acts has seen its share of great successes; their production of Sartre's Huis Clos (No Exit) has been remarked by some as being one of the best productions to grace an Exeter stage (for which Brummitt hardly take sole credit, given the brilliant cast by which he was blessed).
Random Acts Theatre was formed with Brummitt's artistic partner, Khnemu Menu-Ra, as a undergraduates of The A. Max Weitzenhoffer University College of Fine Arts (for which NiMax Theatre's A. Max Weitzenhoffer serves as namesake and benefactor), from which Brummitt was awarded a Bachelor of Arts. Subsequently, he has been awarded a Master of Arts with Distinction from The University of Exeter from which he has been likewise awarded an MPhil in Performance Practice (Emphasis: Playwriting) as of early November 2012.
Brummitt is foremost a writer and more specifically a playwright, though on occasion can be persuaded to harness his skills as an actor; the focus of his plays varying widely though ever with the intent of exploring the ambiguities of social phenomena and existential philosophy which seem more to have chosen him than he them. Through through writing, Brummitt has remarked that he explores the notion beautifully expressed in Kurt Vonnegut Jr's 'Timequake' in which Vonnegut writes of his thesis adviser's definition of an 'artist':
'"Artists", he said, "are people who say, 'I can't fix my country or my state or my city, or even my marriage. But by golly, I can make this square canvass, or this eight-and-a-half-by-eleven piece of paper, or this lump of clay, or these twelve bars of music, exactly what they *ought* to be!'"'
Additional information:
