About me
I am a performer and creative practitioner specialising in dance and arts from the Jazz era. I started my dance story with the first wave of hip hop dancers on the streets of East London where I was born and raised. I am an autodidact.I come from a musical family and received a classical music education. My love for jazz and deep seeded passion for dance, made for a natural progression to search for the roots of present day street-dance, Vernacular Jazz (including the Lindy-Hop), which I discovered in 1990.
I have worked with many of the original masters of Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz Dance. For over 10 years I was one of Frankie Manning's assistants. www.frankiemanning.com. Considered to be the "protégé" of jazz dance veterans like Norma Miller and others, Frankie himself crediting me as one of the 5 top female dancers in the world. Often described as the next generation of "authentic" lindy hoppers, I have since become one of the leading present day role models for this genre.
As a dance teacher, my unique and much sought after method of teaching Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz, produces an authentic style (a style which has been approved by the originators). My experience of more than 20 years in education, in addition to a lifetime as a street-dancer, drives me to share my passion with those who want to share theirs with me. I work with all ages and abilities.
I have developed a pedagogy for training teachers. I am consultant to numerous festival organisers and performers.
My initiatives have had a huge influence on the London underground scene, the UK and French Lindy Hop scenes. I am keen to continue spreading and developing the Lindy hop, my emphasis on the soul and roots of the dance.
A quote from Rhythm Tap N' Swing Association, Lyon, France - "Her experience and knowledge in these areas is second only to her physical embodiment of the vernacular dance she so loves."
