About me
My journey to acting happened later than most people. I did some acting in high school in class, but never thought of myself as an actor. I didn't audition for the school productions (which were juicy classical plays), instead I came on to do set design/set construction. However deep down, I always wanted to be an actor/musician.I took Political Science at Western University, but I felt a serious void in my heart and, with a few friends, created a theatre company where we funded and performed our own shows. Our first two productions, Glengary Glen Ross and The Pillowman we're very well received. This is when I started to scratch the surface of my creativity and started to really take myself seriously.
After graduation, I went back to Toronto, and got a job working for Canadas Walk of Fame. I enjoyed doing non-for-profit work, something my mom always encouraged us to do: give back. I enjoyed the job, but I wasn't acting at the time. Unfortunately my close friend died, which caused me to do some serious soul searching. This was the hardest thing I have ever dealt with in my life. I decided that life was too short and I needed to pursue my passion for acting. I didn't want any regrets down the road, now was the time.
With my friend in my heart, and some encouragement from my family, I took a class at Armstrong Acting Studios, and got a taste of film, but eventually chose to attend George Brown Theatre School for 4 years. I learned a lot from George Brown, and I'm glad I got theatre training because I learned a great deal about my body and how I work.
The summers in between school were great for me: I participated in my first Toronto Fringe Show in 2016, I wrote my first play for the Toronto Fringe in 2017 (which was very well received), and I formed a theatre collective that combines music and theatre in unconventional ways--we have done two shows (August 2016, October 2017). In August of 2017, I also participated in an adaptation of Pippi Longstocking where we took 30 people out on a boat in the Harbour of Lake Ontario, and serenaded them with enchanting music and charming dialogue. It was a tremendous growing experience for me.
After working steady from graduating in April to October of this year, I had a bit of a lull. I took some time to reevaluate my goals as an actor. I wanted to build on my experience, and improve my acting technique. I decided to shift my attention to film. Its been a fruitful process, because although Film and theatre are very different, they compliment one another. I have grown considerably in the past few months and I cant wait to continue going deeper into understanding myself and the technique.
Since I shifted my focus to film, I stared in a student film, I participated in a nationally televised CBC event, I took another acting class at Armstrong Acting Studios and have been promoted to the next level, and I worked with David Rotenberg. I just want to keep working, and learning. To me, acting is a bottomless pit and I learn something new everyday. It so important to keep learning, and keep exploring. I'm ready for my next adventure.
