Live review: The Glasgow Story ft. The Dirty Blonde, The Swinging Mables at Sleazy’s, 4/7/13

Over the years I have been fortunate to have caught many fantastic shows in the fabulous little school nativity play-esque Nice N Sleazy basement, ranging from the pessimistically engulfed Elvis Perkins to the stomping breakthrough of minimalist mohawk James Blake.

Tonight is a slightly different setting altogether, while there are bands, folk have gathered for the launch of The Glasgow Story; the new series which is available to purchase through Amazon as of tonight.

In a couple of hours we will have the exclusive first showing of the series.

In attendance tonight we have actors from the show, musicians, and of course lots of family and friends.

It almost feels like I’m at a Glasgow Oscars of sorts; just replace the fine mulled wine with two quid Kronenbourg, oh and Russell Brand with local heart throb Jon Degnan.

You can’t help but feel tonight the music is merely a backdrop to proceedings; the majority of the crowd are here to see themselves or loved ones in The Glasgow Story screening.

After a quick dash for another tinnie, it is time for the first ever screening of The Glasgow Story.

A local sitcom comedy based around a group of young lads in the twilight of school life.

Some of the acting is a little amateurish, but there is a real charm to be found in the innocence and nostalgia located within some of the local landmarks such as Kelvingrove Park and of course Suckyhaw’ Street.

Special mention goes out to Andrew Bulloch, Jon Degnan and Caitlin MacColl who particularly excel, there is a very special bond in this young talented cast and the show is well worth checking out if you are into a bit of cheeky Glasgow banter.

There we have it then, the concept of mixing screenings, live DJs and musical acts has strangely been pulled off to an effective extent tonight.
