    About me

    Professional, friendly, dedicated and ambitious.

Chris made his professional debut at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in his home city of Leeds in 2004, appearing in two short plays at a BBC new writers’ festival, and started three years theatre training at London Metropolitan University soon after.

After graduating he gained work as a screen actor, appearing in commercials, short films and music videos before landing his first feature film Peter - A Portrait of a Serial Killer in 2010. His first leading film role came in 2011’s SoMe, a futuristic look at social media, which won the Audience Choice Award at New York’s Zero Film Festival. Another leading role was Michael in political short film Killer Bird, which screened at festivals in London and Los Angeles. In 2015 he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Crossroads which debut at the Cannes Film Festival and was picked up up by Shorts TV.

"Clynes is a fantastic lead as the uncertain hero"

    UKFILMREVIEW.CO.UK

"Clynes is quite simply perfect to play Michael as the everyman he is"

    ONEFILMFAN.COM

On television he played Anne Boleyn’s alleged lover Mark Smeaton in the 2016 hit Channel 5 series Henry VIII and His Six Wives, and more recently played Thomas Wyatt in the National Television Award-nominated Elizabeth I.

After impressing in London theatre productions such as Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler and Caryl Churchill’s Cloud Nine, Chris’s performance as Hamlet at the Rose Playhouse in 2016 established him as an actor to watch, with critics’ praise and sold out performances making it his most notable theatre role to date.

"Chris Clynes as Hamlet really sets the stage alight"

    SOUTHWARK NEWS

"When Daniel Day-Lewis played Hamlet the language seemed to be in control, pulling him along. Here, Chris Clynes is firmly in charge of his role, capable of exercising chilling menace"

    LONDON THEATRE 1

Continuing his success in a leading Shakespeare role, he next took on the role of Macbeth in an open-air production at Devon’s picturesque Valley of The Rocks, and in 2017 took on the leading role of William Shakespeare himself, in Nicholas de Jongh’s new play Pricked Out at The Kings Head Theatre.

2017 also saw Chris work internationally as a model, as well as an actor. He performed as The Narrator in Life-Long Steps, an exclusive event dedicated to Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn at Monaco's prestigious Yacht Club, before becoming the face of menswear for Middle East brand DalyDress.
