About me
My interest in performing is a life defining thing. Early performances led to classes and I explored all I could of Music, Drama, Dance and Art, alongside History, Philosophy and the ancient myths... My imagination, a great force in my life, is fired by my love of stories and the telling of stories.I spent most of my teens and early twenties developing acting, dance and singing skills before I shifted to a degree in Theology & Philosophy, a choice which ultimately expanded my awareness of the human condition and showed me all new forms of storytelling!
Knowing that expanding my horizons was required if I was serious about performing with range and depth, I spent the next few years in Scotland and then New Zealand. Having gained a teaching qualification before leaving the UK I taught high school Drama and Dance, spent some months training in the NZ Army, kept performing as much as was viable down there and took professional training classes at the Christchurch Court Theatre... It didn’t take long for all that to not be enough to satisfy me though!
I returned to the UK determined to get the intensive professional training I need to hone what I have into the professional actor I want to be. I secured a place at the Birmingham School of Acting... big steps but bigger learning, and I’ve never felt so happy or fulfilled. I know I’m on the right course and I’m motivated.
I believe that my broad experience of performing across genres and different media has given me a good grounding in what a performer needs to bring to the table. I believe without ego that I also have significant natural talent. The courses I’ve completed to date have shown me how to better access it. To continue this development I have thrown myself into personal practice and the hunt for professional work in order to devote my entire energy to undergoing that transition and transformation, that is what I need to be all that I can be.
I’m ambitious... I want soar the heights of creativity, I want to play Oberon for the RSC, win an Oscar and a BAFTA and be knighted in my dotage by Queen Kate! I’m also a realist however. While I know I have a lot of what it will take to succeed, and I’m fortunate to be able to learn quickly, I’m fully aware that this industry is a serious and challenging one where I will have to work hard to master the skills of this great art. I am up for that challenge!
