Singer:
Accomplished singer and occasional actor. High baritone, pop/cabaret/jazz-swing. Currently promoting my one man show 'Scenes from a Well-spent Youth' featuring reworking of the songs of 1965-75. Experience includes major roles in NZ musical theatre productions, singing the songs of Bing Crosby in 'Christmas Crooners' (UK tours), plus barbershopping and cabaret.
"Tim Benton is a remarkably involving singer with a gift for drawing his listeners into the stories he weaves and the scenes he paints. His rich vocals, dramatic or delicate as required, are well produced and bear clear evidence of the musical theatre/opera world he’s inhabited for some time. But his style is firmly rooted in the pop music he grew up with – tuneful, rhythmic and accessible. His biggest strength, however, is with the lyrics. His perfect diction brings out hidden sides to songs you thought you knew. Combining that with an actor’s talent for digging inside his protagonists’ minds, he succeeds in turning every song, no matter how iconic, into an intimate and personal statement.”
Additional skills:
Rhythm/folk guitar.
